The crunch of golden leaves under your feet can only mean one thing; it’s time to clean out the gutters!

Most professionals will recommend that you clean out the gutters twice a year; in spring and autumn.

But every home is different and how often or when you clean your gutters can depend on the climate or the number of surrounding trees.

There are certain essentials needed when giving your gutter a good clean.

The basics include a rubbish bag, hose, a rake (or even an old kitchen spatula) and a ladder.

Another great way to get rid of the leaves is by using a leaf blower provided you’ve got one handy.

Don't let your gutter clog up. It could leave you with some very costly problems.

All too often, people will rush the cleaning out of the gutters but it is so important to be patient and to clean them out properly. Many people often spray the debris in the gutter down the spout with water from their hose.

That runs the risk of getting the drains clogged with things like leaves and branches. And the last thing you want is a blocked drain.

Spread a tarp underneath your workspace to collect all the gutter gunk and protect your lawn and landscaping and make sure you dress accordingly.

Gutter cleaning can be a very messy business.

With the gutters now clean and shining, try repairing any sagging metal by mounting a gutter hanger.

Gutter hangers typically use spikes driven through a metal tube or ferrule to fasten the gutter system to the fascia - that’s the long, narrow board running along the edge of your roof.
