Over the years, Chase House has played an integral part within the history of Faversham and the lives of its residents, with the vendors having uncovered a tremendous amount of historical evidence which documents this. Most notably, Chase House was purchased in 1912 by the Black family at which point the drawing room was converted into a cycle hire and repair shop. Later, the stables at the rear were converted into a garage and taxi business with Nellie Redwood (sister-in-law to Percy Black) in 1918 reputed to be Britain's first female taxi driver. Infact, the old signs for Blacks Garage can still be seen on the side of the building today.
The property saw a variety of other businesses over the following years, including a fruiterer's, a grocery shop, a hairdressers and even an estate agents. During World War ll, Chase House was run as a relay station and during the 1950's it housed a stocking repair business, however after nearly 80 years of serving Faversham's community in one way or another, it was returned to residential use and was again occupied by the Black family until purchased by its current vendors in 2005.
Chase House enjoys a prominent and most prestigious position, situated on the corner of Forbes Road and Preston Street, just a few moments walk from Faversham's bustling town centre. It is also conveniently situated adjacent to Faversham station and is the first house of significance seen when arriving in Faversham by train.
