Located at the mouth of the River Medway on the Isle of Sheppey, Sheerness is the largest town on the island. The site of a former Royal Dockyard, Sheerness is now a thriving commercial port.

With the new road bridge to the island, Sheerness and the Isle of Sheppey have become a much more attractive option. The new bridge provides good access to the rest of the road network, with a direct link to the M2 and M20 motorways and to Maidstone.

The sand and shingle beach was awarded a European Blue Flag for cleanliness and safety, and the sea wall forms a pleasant promenade along the coast. There is a swimming pool and badminton, bowls, squash, tennis, and sailing are all available.

Sheerness itself comprises a fair proportion of terraced housing of varying scales and ages, from the Victorian period on. Although there is very little large scale development in Sheerness itself, there are pockets of new housing to be found in Minster immediately to the east of Sheerness, and other areas on the Isle of Sheppey.
